NEBOSH is the UK's leading Health & Safety Awarding Body and is gaining increasing international status.  NEBOSH qualifications are recognised and respected by employers in all sections of employment and provide the benchmark standard against which others are compared.  Since the 1970s, the principle that "those who create the risks must manage them" has been enshrined in the management of Health & Safety at work.

Inadequate management of Health & Safety costs individuals, organisations and society dearly.  These losses can be minimised by planning activities, organising and training staff, assessing the risk, implementing controls and monitoring their use, and periodically reviewing the system.

Managers and Supervisors making day to day decisions have a crucial role to play in any organisation's Health & Safety management system, for it is the quality of these decisions that will determine successful outcomes. Success in Health & Safety is not only a legal requirement but is also a precursor to good management in general.

The Certificate course is a demanding but rewarding experience that is designed to compliment existing managerial skills.  The core competence is transferable across all employment sectors, which makes the qualification highly respected and valued by employers.

Holders of the National General Certificate have demonstrated that they possess a broad base of knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety such that they can manage their everyday activities safely - with Health & Safety as an integral part rather than a bolt-on extra.  With the Certificate you will be able to make a valuable contribution to reducing both losses to your organisation and harm to your fellow employees.

The unitised National General Certificate will consist of three units:

NGC1         -        Management of Safety & Health
NGC2         -        Controlling Workplace Hazards
NGC3         -        Practical/Inspection

NGC1 and NGC2 are assessed by written examination and the NGC3 by practical examination.

Please note that unit NGC1 also forms part of the NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction and the NEBOSH Certificate of Fire Safety and Risk Management. Candidates who have already achieved this unit as part of either qualification within the last
five years can count it towards achieving their National General Certificate. Unit A of the National Diploma achieved within the last five years can also count towards the NGC1 but the result for this unit is capped at a pass grade.
